I was brought up in Swansea and trained at Guy’s Hospital Medical
School, London. I have been a partner at the Medical Centre
since 1981. My main interests within the practice are child
health and GP education. I have been a GP trainer since 1993 and
enjoy supervising the GP registrars during their time at our
practice. I am married with three grown up sons and
an active member of Hope Baptist Church, Bridgend. My interests outside the
practice include walking in Pembrokeshire, cooking and driving
my mini with the roof down, weather permitting!

I was born and bred in Usk, Monmouthshire and attended Caerleon Comprehensive School. I initially did a sports degree at UWIC (formerly S.G.I.H.E), where my main sports were hockey and volleyball. I then entered the Welsh National School of Medicine and qualified in 1988. I continued my sporting interest, playing hockey and spending six weeks working at a prestigious sports medicine clinic in Sydney, Australia. I came to Bridgend in 1989 to train as a GP and was a Registrar at this practice. Despite rumours, I do work full time and I am married with two teenage daughters. My hobbies are running, gym, golf at Southerndown, entertaining (though not a great cook), travel - especially to Majorca and our caravan in St Davids - with the odd venture onto the ski slopes. As all mothers know, my car now has a taxi sign and is in constant use.

After leaving school at Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, Pontypridd, I did a 3 year degree at University College Cardiff, where I graduated with a BSc in Pharmacology in 1987. I then went to Medical School in Cardiff and qualified as a Doctor in 1992. I am a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and hold the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (which came in handy when I unexpectedly delivered my second son at home). I have been trained in acupuncture by the British Medical Acupuncture Society. My medical interests include clinical pharmacology, minor surgery and the commercial application of information technology in medical education. I am the prescribing lead for the practice and I developed this website (so you can blame me if the text looks odd and the colours clash). As well as General Practice, I also work for the British Medical Journal Group, where I am the primary care Editor for BMJ Onexamination.com - a revision resource for Doctors sitting postgraduate medical exams. I am a Welsh speaker and I'm happy to hold consultations in Welsh. I live in Cardiff with my wife, who is also a Doctor, but is presently a full time mother looking after our 4 children. My hobbies include mountain biking, listening to music of all kinds and I love great food (which just about rules out anything I've cooked for myself). At weekends, I'm often spotted falling off my my bike at a number windswept locations. |

| GP Registrars | ||
|
"Registrars" are fully qualified Doctors who are undertaking further postgraduate training in General Practice. The practice is approved as a training practice. There are usually two young fully qualified doctors from the local hospital attached to the practice for less than a year, who are in the process of specialising in primary health care. You may request or be offered appointments with them as well as regular partners and they assist with home visits and clinics. The practice may be inspected by other doctors for the purpose of accreditation for training. This may involve inspection of medical records by other doctors. It may, sometimes, be necessary to videotape consultations with the registrar. The tape would be used for the purposes of training and would only be seen by doctors and personnel who have access to NHS records. We would not videotape any consultation without informing you beforehand and obtaining your consent.
